Modular Cleanroom(PODs) Industry knowledge

Pharma United supplies prefabricated Modular Cleanroom(PODs) manufacturer built and quality-tested in our own factories before they reach your site. The range is divided into Outdoor PODs, for stand-alone cleanroom capacity outside an existing building, and Indoor PODs, for creating classified space inside a working facility. Both types integrate the enclosure, insulation, HVAC, filtration, lighting, electrical system, flooring, doors, windows and controls into one factory-built unit, so on-site work is limited to placement, utility hook-up and final commissioning.

This makes us a direct production partner for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, hospital, semiconductor, electronics and food projects that need classified space quickly without a full construction programme.

Our Modular Cleanroom(PODs) Range

Configuration Best Fit Integrated Scope Installation Model
Outdoor PODs Stand-alone clean capacity in a yard, roof area or adjacent to an existing plant; emergency or temporary production spaces Weather-protected shell with insulation, HVAC, electrical, lighting, doors, windows, flooring and control system Factory-assembled, transported as complete units, craned or slid into position, then connected to site utilities
Indoor PODs New clean capacity inside an existing building or workshop without major structural renovation Cleanroom wall panels, ceiling, doors, windows, lighting, electrical, flooring, HVAC and control system Pre-assembled in sections, moved through existing access points, assembled and commissioned in place

Application Fit for Modular Cleanroom(PODs)

  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology — flexible or phased capacity expansion, GMP-oriented production suites and packaging areas.
  • Emergency response and temporary production — deployable cleanrooms for rapid testing, vaccine fill/finish support or overflow capacity.
  • Semiconductor and electronics — localized clean zones in space-constrained facilities where precision assembly or testing must be isolated.
  • R&D and pilot plants — reconfigurable environments where process lines change frequently and speed matters.
  • Facility retrofits — adding ISO-classified areas inside older buildings without heavy civil work or extended shutdowns.

Enclosure and Material Engineering

The POD shell is built with the same high-performance sandwich panels we manufacture for conventional cleanrooms. You can select from our Cleanroom Panel range, including rockwool, PIR, PU, aluminum honeycomb and other cores, depending on the fire rating, thermal insulation and weight limits for your project. Smooth interior steel faces and airtight panel joints support consistent particle control, pressure retention and easy sanitation.

For Outdoor PODs, we add weather sealing, rainwater protection and upgraded insulation to cope with outdoor temperature swings and humidity. Indoor PODs use the same integrated approach but are sized and sectioned so they can be manoeuvred through existing doorways, corridors and lifts. Flooring is specified according to the process — seamless vinyl, epoxy or conductive finishes — and is installed as part of the factory build.

HVAC, Filtration and Pressure Control

Every POD carries its own environmental control system, so it can maintain a target ISO cleanliness class independently or be tied into a larger facility system. We engineer the AHU, HEPA filter bank, supply/return air paths, pressure differentials and temperature/humidity control around the process that will run inside. For pharmaceutical projects, the airflow pattern, air change rate and pressure cascade are configured to align with GMP zoning and contamination-control logic.

  • HEPA filtration and supply boxes sized to the room classification and particle challenge.
  • Positive or negative pressure control for containment versus aseptic protection.
  • Integrated lighting, electrical distribution, emergency lighting and control panel.
  • Option to link the POD control system to a building management system (BMS) or standalone touchscreen.

Configuration and Future Expansion

Because the units are modular, a single POD can serve as a small lab or testing room, while several PODs can be arranged side by side or end to end to form a multi-room suite with corridors, airlocks and pass-throughs. We design the interface points so that future PODs can be added without disrupting the existing production environment. Relocation is also practical: a unit can be lifted, transported and recommissioned at another site, making it a reusable asset rather than a fixed structure.

Installation, Acceptance and Site Coordination

Our factory pre-assembles each POD to the maximum degree possible, then disassembles or sections it for transport. On site, we provide supervision for positioning, mechanical and electrical connection, and final sealing. We also confirm the utility interface points — power supply, water, drainage and exhaust — so the local installation team knows exactly what to prepare. Acceptance includes particle count testing, airflow verification, pressure differential measurement and documentation of the as-built configuration.

During project planning, we coordinate the POD layout with equipment movement paths, floor flatness, door openings and site access for cranes or forklifts. This prevents the typical delays caused by a cleanroom delivered before the building is ready to receive it.

Quality Assurance and Factory Control

Pharma United operates two manufacturing bases — in Kunshan, near Shanghai, and in Qianjiang — where we control panel production, door and window fabrication, and assembly of cleanroom equipment. This in-house manufacturing approach gives us direct control over material quality, surface finish, dimensional accuracy and delivery timing. Each POD is quality-tested in the factory before shipment, reducing the risk of defects discovered only after installation. For large turnkey projects, this also lowers coordination costs because the enclosure, doors, airflow equipment and control systems come from one accountable supplier.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

To prepare a clear proposal and accurate budget, we need the following project inputs:

  • Required room size, target ISO class and pressure direction (positive, negative or neutral).
  • Process description — occupancy, equipment heat load, chemical use and particle generation.
  • Indoor or outdoor placement, including available footprint and access route for delivery.
  • Utility availability: power capacity, water, drainage, exhaust and existing HVAC interfaces.
  • Door, window, pass-box, air shower and interlock requirements.
  • Regulatory target: WHO-GMP, EU-GMP, FDA or local standards.
  • Project schedule and whether the POD will be relocated or expanded in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Outdoor PODs and Indoor PODs?

Outdoor PODs are self-contained units with a weather-protected shell, upgraded insulation and all systems integrated, so they can stand alone outside an existing building. Indoor PODs are designed to be assembled inside a facility, using standard cleanroom panels and equipment, and are sectioned for passage through existing doors and corridors.

Can Modular Cleanroom(PODs) be expanded or relocated later?

Yes. The modular construction allows individual PODs to be added, reconfigured or relocated. We design the electrical, HVAC and panel interfaces so that future modules can be connected to the existing unit with minimal disruption to ongoing production.

What ISO cleanliness classes can the PODs achieve?

The units are engineered around your target class. With the integrated HVAC, HEPA filtration and pressure control system, we can configure the POD for ISO Class 5 to ISO Class 8 environments, depending on the process and air change rate required.

How are the PODs transported and installed?

Each POD is factory-built, tested and then either shipped as a complete unit or in pre-assembled sections. At the site, we coordinate lifting or transport into position, connect utilities and commission the environmental systems. The site access width, floor flatness and crane availability are reviewed during the proposal stage.

What documentation do you provide for regulatory projects?

For GMP-regulated projects, we support the qualification process with as-built drawings, material certificates, filter test reports, airflow and pressure differential readings, and installation records. We coordinate with your consultants to align the documentation with DQ, IQ and OQ expectations.
