Technical Parameters for Semiconductor Cleanrooms
Required class, temperature, humidity and vibration limits depend on the process node and tools. Your process engineers and facility designers set the final specification. The table below shows common references for areas we typically support.
| Area | Typical class | Common design points | Typical materials from us |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wafer lithography and front-end (specialist projects) | ISO 3–5 | Tight temperature and humidity control, vibration control, AMC filtering | Coordinate with fab specialists |
| R&D and small-scale process labs | ISO 5–6 | Local laminar flow, anti-static surfaces | Panels, Laminar Air Flow, HEPA |
| Assembly, bonding and packaging | ISO 6–7 | ESD control, tight humidity | Anti-static panels, Air Shower |
| Test and inspection | ISO 7–8 | Stable temperature, ESD control | Panels, flush doors |
| Gowning and airlocks | ISO 7–8 | Air Shower, interlocked doors | Air Shower, Pass Box |
| Support areas | ISO 8 | Economical envelope | Standard panels, doors |
Particle limits at 0.5 µm per m³ (ISO 14644-1): ISO 3 allows 35, ISO 4 allows 352, ISO 5 allows 3,520, ISO 6 allows 35,200, ISO 7 allows 352,000 and ISO 8 allows 3,520,000.
- Filtration: HEPA H14 or ULPA is common for cleaner classes (ULPA U15 under EN 1822).
- ESD control: surfaces, floors and workstations are commonly designed to an ESD standard such as ANSI/ESD S20.20 or IEC 61340-5-1.
- Humidity: often held in a narrow range, such as 40–50 % RH, to balance static and process needs.
- Materials: low-outgassing requirements should be discussed at the start.
Vibration and layout: sensitive tools may need isolated floors or separate foundations, which are handled by the building designer. Wall systems should not be rigidly tied to vibration-sensitive foundations, and we can adjust details to keep them separate.
Cross-Border Delivery and Localized Construction Support
Semiconductor projects have demanding schedules because tools are expensive and wait for the room to be ready. We plan shipments so that wall systems, doors and equipment arrive before tool installation starts, and we keep delivery dates visible to the whole team.
- Layout and class review: we confirm room classes, tool footprints, door sizes and utility routes.
- Numbered packing: panels and doors are labeled by room and position.
- Documents: packing list, commercial invoice and certificate of origin, with FOB, CFR or CIF terms.
- Phased shipping: shipments can follow the construction phases.
- Installation support: manuals, video guidance or a supervising engineer.
Local construction: semiconductor rooms are usually built by contractors with cleanroom experience, in cooperation with HVAC, electrical, gas and water teams. The envelope has to coordinate with ceiling grids, return walls, raised floors, utility penetrations and tool access routes. We mark these on the shop drawings and confirm clearances early.
For sensitive tools, the room must be cleaned and tested before they are moved in. Particle counts, airflow, pressure and filter leak tests are performed by a qualified party, and we provide drawings and component data on request.
For sensitive areas, we advise a clean construction method: protect finished surfaces, restrict cutting inside finished rooms, and clean in stages. Shipping can also be timed so that the highest-class rooms are built last, which reduces the risk of damage from other trades working nearby.
We also recommend that tool suppliers review door and opening sizes at the drawing stage, because replacing a door frame after construction is costly.
Quality Control and Certification
Semiconductor customers audit suppliers with detailed checklists. Wall panels and doors do not carry a "semiconductor grade" certificate, and we do not claim this. We offer consistent production, traceable records and open communication.
| Control step | Inspection | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming materials | Sheet, face, core, profiles, gaskets, glass | Known quality |
| Panel production | Dimensions, flatness, bonding, edge sealing | Tight, flush joints |
| Surface inspection | Scratches, bubbles, color, cleanability | Low particle generation |
| ESD and finish check | Review of antistatic options when specified | Static control |
| Door and equipment | Function test of doors, Air Shower and Pass Box | Ready for installation |
| Packing | Count, labels, condition | Complete delivery |
Documents available: material specifications, factory inspection records, filter data and, where available, reports on fire or surface performance.
Where your project has special requirements, such as surface resistance values, low-outgassing materials or specific test methods, please tell us at the quotation stage. We will check what the selected materials can support and will not promise results that we cannot document. Factory audits and sample approval are welcome.
Semiconductor customers usually send long supplier questionnaires and may ask for process audits. We answer them honestly, share sample panels, joints and gaskets for your own tests, and welcome visits to our factory. Batch records are kept for each project, so later questions on a specific room can be traced to the production date and material source.
We recommend agreeing the list of documents early. If your project needs a test report that does not exist for our standard materials, we will say so and discuss alternatives, such as an additional test by a recognized laboratory at your cost.
After-Sales Service and Response Capability
In semiconductor lines, downtime is very costly, and even a small gap in a wall or a damaged door seal can affect yield. We keep complete project records and aim to answer quickly with the right part and a clear method.
- Fast communication: technical questions answered in English by email, phone or messaging.
- Remote diagnosis: photos and short videos of joints, gaskets, windows and doors help us assess problems.
- Spare parts: gaskets, hinges, closers, handles, windows, lights and HEPA Filters.
- Line changes: walls, doors and openings can be modified when tools are moved or replaced.
- Engineer visits: by arrangement.
Typical causes of particle or pressure problems:
| Symptom | Possible cause | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|
| Particle counts rise | Damaged filter, worn surface, open penetration | Leak-test filter, inspect surfaces, reseal |
| Pressure drops | Gasket wear, unsealed opening after tool change | Replace gasket, reseal opening |
| Static discharge events | Worn or contaminated ESD surfaces | Clean or replace surfaces, check grounding |
We suggest keeping a baseline test report from the commissioning stage, which helps compare results later.
Many semiconductor plants record particle counts, pressure and humidity continuously. When a trend changes, we encourage you to send us the data together with any recent changes in the room, such as new tools, new openings or new cleaning agents. With the stored drawings and project records, our engineers can then suggest likely causes and corrective steps.
Replacement parts are produced to the original specification, so appearance and sealing performance match the existing system. For urgent cases, we discuss the fastest shipping option and prepare documents in advance.
A small stock of gaskets, sealant and filters at the site is a sensible way to avoid long delays.
Commercial Terms, Warranty and Lifecycle Cost
For semiconductor customers, the cost of the cleanroom envelope is small compared with the cost of tools and lost production. The most useful comparison is therefore total risk and downtime, not only unit price. We are open about what our envelope can and cannot do.
| Item | Our approach |
|---|---|
| Quotation | Itemized by room and component, with drawings |
| Trade terms | FOB, CFR or CIF, defined in the quotation |
| Payment | Commonly a deposit with balance before shipment or against documents; final terms in the contract |
| Warranty | Defined by component group in the contract |
| Lead time | Given after drawing confirmation |
| Customization | Size, thickness, color, ESD options, door layout |
Cost considerations:
- Class: each step toward a cleaner class increases air supply, filtration and construction quality.
- ESD control: anti-static surfaces cost more but avoid damage to sensitive devices.
- Airtightness: reduces fan and cooling energy.
- Modularity: allows production lines to be moved or expanded.
Process tools, HVAC, ultrapure water, gas systems, monitoring and permits are outside our supply. Warranty exclusions are stated clearly in the contract.
When you compare suppliers, ask each to state clearly the scope, the materials and what is excluded, such as ceiling grids, raised floors, return walls and tool-specific openings. We provide an itemized list that makes comparison straightforward.
If your budget is limited, we can propose alternative specifications, for example a higher-grade envelope for the ISO 5 or 6 area and an economical one for the support rooms. We would rather help you match the design to the real need than sell more than you require.
